Forest of Shadow and Mist

Darkness falls as a mist creeps and rolls

A quiet forest, mysteries hiding stories untold

From a field far away comes a fox's shriek

Shrill and piercing, calling in repeat

A startling reply heard a brief moment later

Closer than you'd care to wager

Tall grass shifts by a wall of loose stone

A shadowy figure rises, and in the moonlight shimmers silver, brown and gold

Suddenly stopping as if aware of my gaze

Suspiciously assessing me, seeing how I behave

Darting off into quietly into the night

Joining in the hunt for a quick bite

All creatures must eat to survive

Hunting is a natural part of life

Wonderous clear skies above, full of glinting jewels

Forming spectacular shapes that provide guidance and tools

Winged creatures flit among the pitch black skies

Dancing on winds, defying gravity's ties

Day-time holds the bluest blues

Creatures roam while humans sleep

Night-time covers all in a darkened hue

Wary of the dangers daytime may keep.
